The Story Behind The Songs…
Gail has been singing all of her life: at first in summer musicals and daily with her brother, Lloyd, (a wonderful pianist who was her first accompanist in life!); in the chorus at LaGuardia HS; and then working at piano bars and hotels on both coasts — where she learned all the jazz standards she hadn’t yet heard while growing up with her mom listening to Ella! (She hopes to help sustain the legacy of those great old tunes for future generations). Gail was Belle Canto trained by Joyce Hall, and coached on storying her songs by the late Broadway conductor, Jack Lee. She worked as a theater artist for two decades before becoming a Narrative Therapist, and in all aspects of her life her motto has been: ‘Don’t let the words just go by’. Gail taught acting, singing and play writing for years, and is author of the book, ‘Find Your Voice’ (Heinemann Press, 2005). She always styles both her older and more contemporary covers to emphasize the story of the song. Before the pandemic Gail began working with her current musical partner, award-winning NYC pianist Gerry Dieffenbach, and they sustained their collaboration (and their sanity!) during the lock down, by making music together via Zoom. Jamming weekly for several years now, they amassed enough tunes for an album…and then another and another, with more soon to come under the keen producing eye and ear of Paul Rolnick, (Zevely Records), and with the mastery of Alan Silverman, (ARF digital) — her dream team. Inspired by her adult sons, Geordy, (the digital media artist who designs her album covers), and Jesse (a wonderful guitarist and songwriter), Gail sang to them every night of their childhoods, and is still happiest when she is singing!
